As business people, I know you know how important networking is for the growth of your business. Is YOUR networking building YOUR business though?

We never know where a door will open, do we? Every new meeting is just like this. It may open a door straight away, but maybe that person knows someone who needs your services or could help you.

Many people who attend networking events, enjoy the experience but don’t attract more clients and/or increase their business profits. They don’t even build a new relationship from the experience!

Don’t expect because someone likes what you do, that they will be keen to catch up for coffee or for more information. They may exchanges business cards with you BUT nothing comes of it. This in NOT their fault!!

If this is happens to you, consider what you did or didn’t do to make this a reality! Why wait for the other person. If you liked them and thought you had synergy, make the contact yourself.

If you want to have a good relationship with someone, you need to put in too! Maybe the other person is unaware of what follow up is necessary after an event.

Become are aware of why you went to the event? Did you plan and have a goal prior to the event? What did you do at the event? What follow up did you do?

If you want to turn your networking into profits you need to create relationships with the right people. They may not even be aware of the potential of knowing you.
Most people don’t do business after a first time meeting. If you exchanged business cards, and made contact within a few days of the actual meeting via email or a phone call, you can then follow them up to arrange to get together to learn more about what they are needing help with for their business!

If you want to form a genuine relationship, you need to put in firstly. Listen to what they need and then see if you can help them get it!

Take your networking from ordinary to extraordinary. Not only is networking an essential life skill, it is also the most basic business building tool in today's competitive market. Networking accounts for more than 87 per cent of all business in the market place. How effective a networker are you? Want to learn more? Talk again next week.

“Be the change you want to be in the world.”

If you are not where you want to be, why not? The only person you can change is YOU. So, go to it and find how you can change to get what you want from life. Make your future what you have planned!

Learn how to network successfully, and become known for your support to others.

Learning to build business relationships is as important as building personal relationships and friendships. You can take control of your career direction by just learning the skills and continuing to hone them.

You don’t need to re-invent the wheel. Talk to as many people you can who are ‘true networkers’. They will help you to meet the people you need to meet to reach whatever goals you want. Don’t be afraid to ASK for referrals!

Attend regular networking events, but don’t do more than two a week as you won’t get the time to do the follow up you need. Remember, you still have to do your business and have a personal life!! Don’t become known as a ‘flitter from one group to another’. You do not usually get business on a first-time visit as you need to build a relationship firstly so find the appropriate relationship building environment for you, and stick with it!!

Think of networking as fun. You need to like people and want to support them on their journey. We are all human and all have wishes and dreams. Help others to fulfill theirs and they in turn will help you.

Learn to identify organisations that represent your customers. Join them and regularly attend meetings. When exchanging business cards, make sure you note the date, event and specific information about the person in your database of your meeting. Nurture your contacts and use them for support, information and inspiration. Update your database constantly.

DO NOT write on someone’s business card without asking them if it is okay. In some cultures it is very rude to deface someone’s card. Their card is them is their shop face ... so do this wisely!

Stay motivated and on track. Networking is powerful and FUN! Learn to be in the right place at the right time and say the right thing! www.jenniegorman.com for more.

If you continually give, you will continually have.

What a wonderful few words these are …. Do you realise that by giving, you will receive?

‘Networking’, ‘word of mouth marketing’ and ‘relationship building’ all mean that same thing. To be successful though you need to make sure you are a ‘giver’ not a ‘taker’. Read ‘The Go-Giver’ by Bob Burg.

Networking to some may seem like old news, but it’s still one of the best sources of referral. Far too many people ignore its potential or use networking incorrectly.

Wikipedia definition
Word of mouth is a reference to the passing of information from person to person. Originally the term referred specifically to oral communication (literally words from the mouth) but now includes any type of human communication, such as face to face, telephone, email, and text messaging.

“WHY ARE YOU NETWORKING?”

Is your reason to become a better networker for career building, developing a higher profile, earning more money/financial gain or gaining influence in your community, job or business network?

This is an important question. If you understand why you are networking, you will find that you will have a clearer vision of what you want.

Unless you know why you are networking and what you expect to gain, you will not move forward with it. Word-of-mouth marketing has been around forever and is a powerful way to build your business.

As networking becomes a natural way of life, it becomes the most successful way to do business. It is necessary for you to learn the basics if you wish to be successful though. It is all about relationship building. You will find that after a while you don’t even think about what you are doing. Networking should always be a win-win for all parties, so always repay appropriately favours extended to you.

Remember, when you give a referral, notify the receiver, cc’ing the person who is being referred, giving information as to why you are referring the person so that both are aware of what has been passed on. This helps both sides to have more of an idea of the relationship with the referrer. Always make it clear what your relationship is with the person you are referring eg they are a client, a personal friend, someone I feel that you will have a synergy with, you haven’t done business with them etc.

One of the most important things to remember is that you need to be seen, become known and move into the marketplace that is appropriate to you, at your own pace, always keeping in mind why you are doing it. Attend one or two specific networking groups and become known as a ‘regular’. People then perceive you as stable, reliable and trustworthy, and will then do business with you.

If you would like to learn these skills Jennie loves to Mentor people to help then discover how easy it can be to build strong business relationship so you can then build a good referral base go to: http://www.jenniegorman.com/main/page_mentoring_sessions_mentoring_sessions.html

Integr8 Networking

Jaeneen Cunningham and I have started a new networking business with a difference.

We launched the Gold Coast for Integr8 Networking on Tuesday of this week and launch Brisbane next week on Wednesday, 25th November.

Take a look at the website http://www.integr8.net.au to find out more.

We know that small business operators are sometimes very much alone.

We want to help small business owners understand why they are networking, what they need to do if they want to be a networker, what other services are available to small business people and how we can support not only our Members but small business people generally to understand their marketplace better.

We will be discussing networking basics, with workshops in the future.

We will be giving networking tips to support you as you learn, help you find other networking sites so that you can see what else is out there and pass on a calendar of events for networking in 2010.

Integr8 is a cost effective organisation which will have a membership base that will not only support you but will give you the opportunity to put yourself out into the marketplace. We aim to help you learn skills that you would normally find hard to learn without motivated and influential business owners around you.

Are you wanting or needing to build longer lasting business relationships that will not only increase your business bottom line, but also act as a referral funnel for you? If so, come and see what have created …. http://www.integr8.net.au

Your key to business success will be a result of the business relationships you develop now and in the future.

Business networking skills are vitally necessary if you want to increase your market share via word of mouth marketing.

So, if you want to become a professional networker come along to develop some new skills for 2010.

Talk to you again next week.

Don't ask yourself what the world needs…..

Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because, what the world needs, is people who have come alive. Harold Whitman.
I just love this saying …. I talk about ‘doing what makes your heart sing’ often when I am presenting talks and workshops. Are you doing what makes YOUR heart sing?
Our passion is what shows when we talk and is in our actions for everyone you come in contact to see. Is your passion showing?
For me, I love helping people build good solid relationships and showing them how to do word-of-mouth marketing successfully. I feel great satisfaction when I know that I have connect two people, who may not have ever met, who find the synergy that will help them move forward in either their personal life or business world.
Do you need help to move forward and reach the right people? If you do, I would love to help you find what or who you are missing in your world.
Take a look at my site to see when the next workshop is being presented in Brisbane. http://www.jenniegorman.com/main/page_upcoming_workshops__upcoming_workshops.html
We are so blessed these days that we have the internet and that social marketing has become such a way of life for many of us. Of course, we need to learn the balance of not getting too caught up in SMM (social media marketing) that we find time runs out for other important things. I suggest to people that they find a time of the day/week that they can do the SMM without doing it ad hoc and wasting a lot of time. There are people in the marketplace who teach how to do SMM, so ask me if you need to connect with someone running courses in this area.
Until next week.

Have you started to do your spring cleaning? Your home and/or your office?

Is it time for you to do some clearing out too? Decluttering can be the most fulfilling exercise you can have ….
I have just spent some considerable time in the south cleaning up my aunt’s house after she died. She had 30 years of everything she had brought into her house …. papers (all types), diaries, note books, clothing, plastics, string, wrappings, containers, absolutely everything, … I mean everything!! Not all neatly contained either, but everywhere.
What a wonderful lesson for me to make sure that I don’t ever do that to my children!! My darling ‘A’ was quite eccentric, and the most wonderful, giving and special person you could ever meet. She was exceptionally generous to those who were less fortunate , as I have never seen in someone before. I am actually writing a book on her life as she was a writer, a drawer and painter, photographer (thousands of photos) and an avid collector of everything you can imagine … no, you probably can’t … but she was the most fascinating and fascinated person whose hobbies and activities were varied considerably! A country girl, very capable and practicable, who could do most things at 83 that people in their fifties would think twice about!
Anyway, there are several people who help others who need help in decluttering their lives … if you are one of them let me know! It may only be a clothes cupboard, a room, your whole house or your office!! But, please, don’t leave it to someone else to clean up!!
If you wish to receive these blogs, subscribe by clicking "Subscribe Posts Atom" below and add your name and email address so that they will come automatically as they are written.
Enjoy your day, have fun, keep laughing and welcome in the new life of spring!

What a wonderful time of year to be starting up my blogging career!

Spring has sprung …. or should I say, is springing here in Australia! The trees and plants are waking up and the birds are preparing for new life! And, so should we!
As a NetWeaver (a professional networker, a community builder), I see the opportunities for people to learn new skills which will kick start not only their businesses but also their personal lives.
To be successful as a networker/relationship builder/word-of-mouth marketer, one must firstly really like people, want to learn what makes others tick and have a thirst for knowledge with an ability of knowing how to connect people generally.
There are many tools necessary to building relationships, all of which are learnable.
If you go to http://www.jenniegorman.com/main/page_networking_self_appraisal.html on my website you will get the opportunity to do a Networking Self Appraisal. This will give you an idea of what you are and what you are not doing when it comes to building relationships. Of course, there are many more things one can learn, but this is for starters!
Try it for yourself and see if you are using some of the tools for networking which will increase your relationship building skills. Over the coming months we will add skills, one at a time, to increase your networking abilities.
If you want to know more, email me!
Enjoy the day.
Blessings
